When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Go Green

Toxic Chemicals

We are around them every day, be it for cleaning, to make ourselves look better (make-up), or just by accidental inhalation. These actions seem rather harmless, but toxic chemicals are quite the opposite of harmless. They can disrupt hormones, cause cancer, damage the brain, damage the respiratory system, negatively affect development/growth in children, and more. Read on to see ways that you can protect yourself from toxic chemicals.

5 Easy Ways to be Toxic-Free

  1. Eat Organic: No pesticides means no toxic chemicals!
  2. Become BPA-free: Bisphenol A or BPA is a chemical that can mimic estrogen and cause cancer. Try to make sure you do not use this..you should try to not use plastic anyway!
  3. No DEET Insect Repellant: Try using alternatives like soybean oil-based repellants, as DEET may damage the respiratory system, the reproductive system, and the brain.
  4. Use Organic Cleaning Products: Most cleaning prodcuts contain carcinogens and other damaging chemicals. Make your own cleaner instead!
  5. Garden Chemical-Free: Use methods like mulching to attract insects that feed on pests instead of using pesticides.
